Learning how do you get certified in thermography? You can earn both a Master’s degree and a PhD in thermography. The PhD is usually earned after three and a half years of coursework at an accredited university or college. Courses include thermography design, measurement, analysis, presentation, and reports. The Master’s degree takes a minimum of five years to complete and involves the study of thermography design and the digital imaging process.
Students are also offered a professional development course as well as an internship during the course. The program requires about one year of full time education. A Master’s degree is not uncommon at most accredited colleges and universities. The thermography curriculum includes an introduction to electrical and electronic engineering basics, electrical and electronics principles and applications, diagnostic techniques, and industrial/manufactural methods.
In the thermography course students learn digital image processing, digital signal processing, industrial and mechanical principles, and image processing theory. It also covers computer software for thermal imaging applications and electronic measurement systems. Students have the opportunity to choose from over 150 specializations. Specialization focuses on specific areas of study such as materials science, environmental monitoring, environmental remediation, environmental quality improvement, environmental law enforcement, and manufacturing safety. Some programs offer direct certification through the National Registry of Medicine Quality Assurance (RNMP), which allows students to become certified with the certification exam offered by the National Health Information Management Association (NHIMA).
The thermography courses cover four specializations: environmental monitoring, clinical practice, medical imaging, and medical transcription. During the fall and winter semesters, students are encouraged to participate in the Research and Development Internship (R&D) as part of their undergraduate program. They can choose to complete the first year in the various areas of their specialization or concentrate on a specific area. This internship helps students gain a greater understanding of the technologies and practices used in thermography.
The training offers hands-on labs and laboratory activities that provide students with real-world experience in applying technical solutions to real-life situations. In the clinical training section, students learn about basic anatomy, human physiology, patient care procedures, and therapeutic procedures, and endocrinology. The training lab includes procedures such as computed tomography (CT) scanning, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. Other clinical topics include patient preparation, ct scan interpretation, and radiographic diagnosis. The endocrinology course emphasizes management of patients with diabetes and obesity.
The final course prepares students for the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) certification exam. It covers diagnostic procedures and therapeutic radiology procedures as well as pharmacology, obstetrics/maternity, and gynecological procedures. In addition to gaining valuable clinical experience, students will also be prepared to pass the licensing exam. As a result, thermography technicians are considered professionals who have a great deal of knowledge in the field of medical imaging technology.
